Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!! It was a great, white one for us. It was our first away from extended family but it turned out to seriously be one of the best we've had. I think this had to do with the fact that our entire married life, up to his point, Top Gun has had a whole month off during the holidays (b/c he's been a student). Which means we were accustomed to having him home all day to ourselves that on Christmas it wasn't anything extra special to just hang out at our house. By the time our kids would open presents we were ictching to go to my mom's or his parents house and meet up with our siblings and "play". Not to mention the huge, yummy feast we would all enjoy together! BUT, seeing that he now works and the weekends are full of one of us coming and going or doing family weekend vaca's, there hasn't been much down time as a family. Which is precisely what made this Christmas wonderful.
He did work half day Christmas Eve. I assumed he'd have the entire day off but don't ever assume anything is a lesson you'd think I would learn by now in the AF. Only the second half of the day is considered a federal holiday. He had Christmas off and they gave him today, the following Monday off too. He gets Thursday and Friday of this week off as well. So even though it's not a month, I think these 4 days will be more fully enjoyed and relaxing. So far it's been some pure, much needed family time without too much madness!!

  1. We got our bases today...Charleston, SC (which was our number one) and San Angleo, TX 'Good Fellow AFB' (which wasn't on our list). Just wanted those that are waiting for March to know.

  2. YEAH!!!!! I can't believe you got your FIRST choice. It MUST be meant to be and now probably an easier choice to make to break out of the big law firm. BTW, Good Fellow is in the middle of nowhere so keep with your first choice :)

It sounds like overall you've had a more positive experience with the AF than us. You got a good 2-3 months notice before he starts which is a huge plus. I hope you all enjoy the 'ride!'

  3. Hey! We got our base choices on New Year's Eve - Hurlburt Field, Florida (which was in our top 10) & Mountain Home, Idaho (which was not). Looks like it's Florida for us - and I'm not complaining! My family already vacations in the area 2 times a year, so it will be nice to see them fairly regularly. He's a go for March COT as well. We are so excited! Congrats Erin on getting your first choice!

  5. (Sorry about the deleted comment I don't know what happened)

I know that in the history JAG very few people get their top choice which is what makes it so ironic that we decided to decline the offer. We have been feeling uneasy about JAG for a few weeks and my husband met with the boss of his big law firm and feels confident that he will start. I guess we decided that for us 9am-9pm M-F is better then deployment and all the other travel involved. Weirdly enough (since I was so against JAG in the beginning) I am a little sad about missing the adventure and all the fun people I would have met. I am also SOOO sad that I will not be living on the beach in Charleston. Hope you both have lots of fun and "lifeofajagwife" let me know if you ever stationed near me.

  6. Oh Erin, I think you made a great decision for your family. Only you guys know what is best for you. I just assumed you said yes thus my previous response. Good luck and maybe our paths will cross. I would LOVE to live in North Carolina sometime!!!! :)

And I doubt your hubby will always work the 9a-9p. The looming idea of deployment does stink. Also, now you don't have to work either. Which is what you wanted!!
