Sigh......No Loan Repayment for Us :(

I am somewhat bitter about this to be honest. The loan repayment program is great for all of you that do get to benefit. It will make life a lot easier when it comes to paying those monthly loan payments. Those JAG's that started JASCO in October 2009 will be the first JAG's to receive the $65,000 over a 3 year period. That's the FANTASTIC news for ALL NEW JAG's.

This is where I get a little bitter. Top Gun was scheduled to start in October 2009 but then an opening came up in the May 2009 class last minute (literally with 4 weeks notice) and he was offered that spot since he'd been in the works to start for months. Even though I was about to have our third baby we jumped on the opportunity to start earlier b/c Top Gun had already been out of law school for a year and was eager to begin his career. That decision just cost us $65,000!!!! Wouldn't you be bitter for a day or two also?? I mean I am happy and we love where we are at and I know we are suppose to be here at this very moment but..........it's still hard to swallow. I will be over it tomorrow, I promise ;)

Oh and HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY tomorrow!!!

  1. My husband is thinking about applying to be an AF Jag and in my research I have run across your blog. I absolutely love it and appreciate all that you have put into it. I have one quick question for you. Are you allowed to have pets on military bases? I have read several different things with mixed answers. I have three small dogs and no children, so the dogs mean the world to me. I was just wondering how feasable it would be to have 3 small dogs and be a military family? Also, how would it work if we were transferred overseas?

  2. Hi Jag Wife,
This is incredible news on the loan repayment program! Although I genuinely hurt for you upon reading your entry that you just missed the cut off!

I was wondering if you had any insight into where i could find more info on the repayment program. I couldn't find a press release or any postings on the official Airforce JAG website- you'd think they'd be shouting this from the rooftops! Was the webcast you mentioned public, or was that just for current JAGs?

I also was wondering if you could do an entry on health care. Is your family totally covered by the military? What about prescriptions? Do you go to the military hospitals/clinics, if so, how has the quality been so far?

Thanks so much, and keep up the great blogging!

  3. Do you know who administers this money? My husband is going to be a jag, and we have questions, but nobody seems to know much about it.

  4. AM- I will do an entry on the health care soon! Top Gun will print off the web cast and bring it home for me to read. It was broadcasted to current Air Force JAG offices. Before they go completely public I'm assuming they want to work out ALL the details. If there's anything I know, it's that they move sllllloooooowwwwwwlllllyyy.
